About Chabad

Chabad Your Town is part of Chabad-Lubavitch, a worldwide Jewish movement with thousands of centers in over 100 countries — and one simple conviction at its heart: every Jew matters, without exception.

“Chabad” is a Hebrew acronym for wisdom, understanding and knowledge. Founded in 1775 by Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the movement has paired deep scholarship with boundless love for every Jew for 250 years.

The Rebbe

Chabad’s global reach is the vision of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory (1902–1994) — one of the most influential Jewish leaders of the modern era. Where others saw decline, the Rebbe saw a generation waiting to be invited in. He sent young couples — shluchim, emissaries — to every corner of the world with one mandate: love every Jew, and build Jewish life wherever you stand.

What a Chabad House is

A Chabad House is a Jewish home whose family is the whole community. It’s Shabbat dinners and Hebrew School, holiday celebrations and Torah classes, a listening ear and a helping hand — a place where Judaism is alive, joyful and yours.
